House Republicans under the leadership of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) are preparing yet another temporary spending band-aid (continuing resolution) in order to avert a Nov. 18 government shutdown, which they could vote on as early as this week, lawmakers said following a meeting with Johnson.

This is Johnson's first high-stakes negotiation as speaker, following the ouster of his predecessor, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), shortly after the House passed the last continuing resolution. (more…)

In the runup to the 2020 election, cybersecurity experts at the Department of Homeland Security and Stanford University decided they had discovered a major problem. 

The issue was not compromised voter rolls or corrupted election tallies but a “gap” in the government’s authority to clamp down on what it considered misinformation and disinformation – a gap identified by DHS officials and interns on (more…)

A 69-year-old man demonstrating in support of Israel has died after sustaining a head injury during a fight with a pro-Palestinian protester during a rally on Nov. 5 in Thousand Oaks, about 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

The Ventura County medical examiner has ruled Paul Kessler’s death a homicide, and the county sheriff's office has not ruled out a hate crime. Mr. Kessler was Jewish (more…)
